Polyurethane Flooring Solution for Chateau Elan Winery and Resort, Atlanta

Chateau Elan Winery and Resort, a renowned full-production winery and premium resort in Atlanta, aimed to enhance the quality and functionality of their kitchen floors. They encountered significant challenges with the flooring due to constant foot traffic, high-pressure cleaning, moisture, heat, and movement of heavy equipment.

Initially, the floors were covered with ceramic tiles, which began to show signs of wear and tear over time. Cracked tiles, slippery surfaces, and grout lines trapping dirt and bacteria affected the kitchen’s hygiene standards and safety. This was when they asked for Sealwell’s professional flooring solution to address the shortcomings of their existing ceramic tile floors.

Our client requirements-

  • High durable flooring to withstand food and chemical spills, and heavy traffic
  • Slip-resistant surface, even when wet
  • An easy-to-clean and maintain flooring solution

Challenges:

Based on client requirements, our team conducted an inspection and identified multiple challenges:

  • Choosing a flooring solution that can easily integrate with the current concrete base
  • Removing the existing ceramic tiles, which were firmly adhered to the subfloor
  • Addressing a deteriorated surface that couldn’t withstand heavy traffic
  • Maintaining a safe and compliant working environment
  • Minimizing downtime during the installation process

Our Objectives

Considering the challenges, our flooring specialists set clear objectives to fulfill client’s needs:

  • Address the flooring issues
  • Improve the surface durability
  • Develop anti-skid and slip-resistant surface
  • Smooth and uniform floor finish
  • Protection against water damage

Our Solution

After thoroughly assessing the facility’s floor conditions, we recommended the client implement a 0.08–0.12-inch thick polyurethane cement flooring. Polyurethane offers exceptional durability and impermeability that is ideal for a busy kitchen.

Implementation

We followed a 4-step process to ensure a smooth and efficient flooring installation:

  1. Preparation: Our team carefully removed the existing ceramic tiles and prepared the concrete subfloor, ensuring a smooth base for the new flooring.
  2. Application: We applied polyurethane primer to the subfloor to enhance adhesion and ensure a strong bond between the subfloor and the new polyurethane coating.
  3. Installation: Following primer application, our team installed polyurethane coating in layers of a thickness of 0.08–0.12 inches. A slip-resistant texture was then incorporated into the top layer of the coating to enhance safety.
  4. Testing and Quality Check: After the installation, we conducted a thorough inspection to ensure that the surface was free from cracks and joints. We also tested the durability and resilience of the kitchen floor.

Results

We achieved great results after implementing the polyurethane flooring system.

  • Superior durability that can withstand daily heavy traffic
  • Slip-resistant surfaces reduce the risk of accidents and improve safety in the kitchen
  • Smooth and chemical-resistant surfaces made the cleaning easier
  • High standards of hygiene with improved daily operations
