Polyurethane Coating Upgrade for UPS data center in Alpharetta, GA

Overview:

The UPS Data Center, located in Alpharetta GA, houses a large number of computer systems that generate a lot of heat during operations. To maintain optimal temperature and prevent these systems from overheating, the data center employs 12 cooling tanks filled with water. These tanks are susceptible to high pressure and moisture and thus require proper flooring to withstand them.

Previously, the client had applied several floor coating materials to protect the concrete tanks. But they repeatedly failed. Finally, they approached Sealwell to get the desired solution.

Our client requirements involved –

  • Floor coating material that can withstand high-pressure
  • Moisture-resistant flooring to prevent water from seeping through the concrete
  • Long-lasting flooring solution to avoid frequent repairs

Challenges:

Understanding our client’s demands, our team assessed the entire surface and eventually identified a few challenging aspects.

  • Initially, applying a coating over a completely-damaged surface was itself a challenge.
  • The existing flooring system had caused persistent leaks. Therefore, ensuring a safe working environment was troublesome.
  • The high pressure and moisture conditions inside the cooling tanks added a barrier during the coating application process.
  • Installing the flooring system without disrupting the data center’s ongoing operations added another layer of complexity.

Our Objectives:

Considering these issues, our team planned everything effectively keeping the following objectives in mind.

  • Remove the existing coating and prepare the surface properly
  • Prevent leaks and floor degradation
  • Ensure minimal disruption of operations
  • Deliver long-term results

Our team used specialized techniques to achieve the desired outcome.

Our Solution:

After a thorough assessment, Sealwell suggested the client apply a polyurethane floor coating that can withstand constant pressure and moisture. It is specially engineered to endure the demanding conditions of the data center’s cooling systems.

Our implementation process involves –

  • The removal of existing floor coating from all 12 tanks to create a clean and smooth surface. The process involved a thorough cleaning to create an optimal base for new flooring installation.
  • Application of polyurethane flooring on the installation area. Our team provided careful attention to ensure that the coating was applied evenly and effectively, sealing all surfaces.
  • Rigorous quality checks to meet high-performance standards. We installed a floor that could not only provide immediate protection against leaks but also deliver long-lasting durability.

Results:

Following the necessary steps, we successfully coated the concrete floor with polyurethane resin. The newly applied coating effectively resolved the issues of leakage and coating failure, offering robust protection against all challenging conditions associated with the tanks. Its enhanced performance now ensures the continuous operation of computer systems within the data center without the risk of water damage.

Client Feedback:

The USP Data Center was pretty much impressed with our polyurethane flooring solution. The client mentioned, “Sealwell has left no stone unturned to satisfy us with their work. Their professionalism and commitment to delivering quality flooring for cooling tanks were beyond our expectations. We highly recommend their service for any critical industrial or commercial flooring needs.”
